15 Random Facts About Me
Here are some interesting things you may or may not know about me!
1.) Guilty pleasure tv is my favorite TV
My husband loves shows that help you intellectually. Honestly, that’s not what I’m into when I’m looking for entertainment. I love watching drama and turning my mind off when watching TV. I’ve always said that I don’t want to be in the drama but I love hearing about it. This goes for my TV shows. Reality TV is my thing so I love The Bachelor franchise, MTV’s The Challenge series, and yes, even The Bad Girl’s Club. It’s trash and I know that, but that doesn’t mean I love watching it any less.
2.) It’s hard to keep my interest in anything
I know my husband cringes anytime that I have a new hobby idea. I’m notorious for spending a bunch of money on something, doing it for like a month or two and then it sits there. Some of them include glam planning, sewing (although I really want to get back into this), independent sales, and up-cycling old furniture. It’s also why I don’t read books. Unless it’s really engaging, I lose interest really easy. Heaven forbid it has a movie out, because I will watch the movie to just to find out the end.
3.) I love listening to podcasts
We do a lot of driving, either driving 18 hours home a few times a year or a couple of hours on the weekends going to the city. I mentioned before that I’m not really into books so podcasts are perfect for me. I listen to all sorts of podcasts, everything from fictional stories, to case studies, to science. They make the drive go by very quickly.
4.) I don’t drink beer, mostly
I love me some wine and specialty cocktails. It’s not that I’ve never drank beer, I just haven’t acquired the taste for it. I say mostly because I do love Micheladas. I developed my passion for them while living in Oklahoma. A Michelada is basically a Mexican Bloody Mary made with Clamato juice and beer. (Bonus points if it’s a corona or modelo)
5.) I graduated my Bachelors of Arts with a 3.98
This has always gotten on my nerves. I had a 4.0 until my last semester of classes, then in one class I earned an A- and it ruined my GPA. I was bummed and still am. I did graduate with my Masters of Education with a 4.0, so I feel I redeemed myself a bit. I in no way think I’m a super smart, I just believe I was meant to be a teacher so it came really easy to me.
6.) Raised in Florida but I’m originally from a small town in Georgia
We moved to Florida when I was three years old so I claim Florida as home. Myself and whole paternal side of my family are from a super small town in South Georgia called Enigma. I think there was about 500 people living there when we moved. It had one gas station, no red lights, and my great grand mother owned the only restaurant. We spent a lot of weekends there as a kid and I have some great memories from it.
7.) I’ve had the same face pose since middle school
You can ask my middle school friends, (Hey girls!) I’ve been doing the same pose since middle school. Yes even before today’s beloved selfie. I’ve since named it my cheerleader pose.
8.) My husband tricked me into dating him
Long story short when my husband asked me to be his girlfriend I said I wasn’t sure. Later that night he asked me if I was his girl. Silly me was thinking I’m his girl, as in a girl that’s a friend. The next day was my graduation from college party and my friend came up to me asking if he was my boyfriend. I said no and he laughed saying, “Well he just told your grandma he is your boyfriend.” And the rest is history.
9.) My husband and I have known each other since we were 11
If you would have asked me then, or even ten years ago, if I would get married to the skater kid from middle school, I would have laughed in your face. We were friends in middle school but drifted apart in high school. We didn’t have our first date until college when he came home for Christmas break. We reconnected through Facebook and I agreed to go on the date thinking it was just a free dinner.
10.) I look at food as a vessel for dips
I’m a sauce girl. You might have learned this in my hello fresh review. I love sauces. I always need extra sauce. One of my more unusual preferences is sour cream for steak. Don’t knock it until you try it! It sounds strange, but everyone in my family does it and almost everyone who I have introduced it to now does it too. By far my favorite is my chimmichurri recipe. I eat it on everything!
11.) I only write with my left hand
Weird I know. This isn’t completely true because I do use a fork in my left hand, but I use my left hand for anything I hold like a pencil. I use scissors with my right hand, I throw a ball with my right hand, and I’m right footed.
12.) I love chocolate but hate chocolate flavored things
Don’t ask me why, I just do. As a kid I hated all chocolate except KitKats. Today I love chocolate but hate anything chocolate flavored. I love brownies and fudge but won’t touch chocolate cake, milk, or ice cream.
13.) I’m still scared of the dark and horror movies
I can’t be in the dark. I only sleep in the dark if my husband is next to me, so if he is gone on a trip I keep the bathroom light on. Even turning off lights in the house at night gives me the creeps and I may or may not run to the room after the last light is out. Horror movies? Forget it. I can’t. Just can’t. Never could. Never will.
14.) I don’t have a favorite movie or song
I’m not sure if this is normal or not but when asked these questions I can’t think of just one that I love the most. I have lots of movies and songs I LOVE, but not one sticks out above the rest.
15.) I’m named after both of my grandmas
My first name is actually Norma. I’ve always gone by my middle name, Elena. Norma is my dad’s mother and Elena is my mom’s mother. We wanted to keep the tradition alive and honor our fathers so we decided to name our daughter after her grandfathers. I guess we were lucky that they had names with pretty feminine versions.
